MARRAKAI APARTMENTS, Darwin – A Smart Stay in the City

The hotel offers spacious rooms with double sliding doors on two sides, a wrap-around balcony, and ceiling fans, making it perfect for the tropical climate. While the rooms needed a better clean, I was pleased with the view and space, which was much nicer than what we were initially expecting. The service provided laundry and tours/ticket assistance, but there were some issues. The location was fantastic for easy access to Mitchell Street, the Esplanade, and a short drive to Mindil Beach, although the presence of rowdy tenants from housing commission flats across the street was disruptive. I enjoyed watching the sunrise and indulging in local fruits during dining. The facilities offered a comfortable stay with some room for improvements.

The hotel had a lovely view from the clean room, but the door had some issues with locks. It could benefit from a vacuum cleaner for guests to use. The location was fantastic with easy access to CBD and all Darwin City attractions, although it was being cleaned upon our departure.

Upon arrival, the hotel presented itself as 'Luxury all Suites' but the rooms we were allocated had a strong unpleasant odor when we opened the door. The cleanliness left much to be desired with cockroaches, ants, and black hair scattered across the floor, indicating a lack of proper maintenance like vacuuming. Despite this, the rooms offered essential amenities such as a full kitchen, bedrooms, and laundry facilities. The value for money might not align with the initial impression.

Staying at the hotel was a mixed experience. While the rooms were spacious with a nice view from a huge balcony, they felt dated, dusty, and cluttered, especially with the Service Station lights shining through at night. The service, including laundry and tours/ticket assistance, was acceptable but nothing exceptional. The location was convenient for walking into Darwin town center, although there was a noticeable bad smell lingering. Dining offered a variety of hot pot dishes for enjoyable meals. Overall, the facilities were decent, but there were some cleanliness issues that affected the experience.
